Aerobic exercises

How you can breathe easier

Aerobic exercises increase your heart rate and the amount of oxygen (O2) that goes to your muscles. The more O2 your muscles receive, the longer they can work. If you keep up with your exercise routine, you should be able to do more exercises for longer periods of time.23-25 Talk to your doctor about these aerobic exercises you may consider23-25 :

  • Walking outdoors or on a treadmill
  • Cycling or using a stationary bicycle
  • Swimming and water aerobics
  • Daily activities: walking to work or to run errands, cleaning (perhaps to fast-paced music), playing actively with children, walking your dog

You might also want to consider yoga and tai chi. These low impact exercises increase strength and flexibility. Joining a class gets you out of the house and into the company of other people. You just might find the classes a lot of fun.

NOTE: Talk to your doctor about a plan that’s right for you.
